What is the Trowel of Excellence (TOE)?

The Trowel of Excellence is recognition that a Tile (stone) installation member company performs the highest level of quality installations and is committed to the betterment of the Tile Industry.

 

Is the certification for an individual or company?

The company is certified.

 

Who can apply for a TOE Certification?

Must meet all criteria.

  • A member in good standing of TCAA
  • A signatory contractor in good standing with IUBAC
  • A contributor to International Masonry Institute
  • A company who has been in the tile contracting business under the same name for a minimum of five years

 

Who determines if applicants are certified?

The Board of Directors of the Tile Contractors' Association of America

 

What are the education requirements?

The education hours can come from a combination of company employees

  • Completion of at least 24 hours of educational programming within the past 5 years (12 hours must come from programs completed at TCAA conventions and 12 hours from IMI-sanctioned training) or,
  • Successful graduation from the IMI Contractor College or,
  • For 2006 applicants only, attendance at TCAA annual convention 3 times over the past 5 years.


 

What is required as evidence of financial responsibility?

A bond or CURRENT insurance certificate is required with the application.

 

What must be submitted with an application?

  • Completed Application Form
  • A signed letter stating employees have the required OSHA training.
  • Signed TCAA Code of Ethics
  • Letter from IMI or TCAA stating educational component have been met
  • FIVE Letters of Reference
  • Body of Work Documents (projects completed within past 5 years)
  • Bonding Instrument AND/OR Certificate of Insurance
  • Company Biography
  • $300 Certification Fee

 


When will TOE certifications be awarded?

Formal presentation will take place at the TCAA Annual Convention. However, a company is considered certified once all the required submission materials are received and the Board of Directors approves it during a regularly scheduled Board meeting. The company is entitled to display the TOE logo on marketing materials as soon as it has received notification of certification.

What is the deadline for submitting applications?

In order to receive certification in time for convention, the deadline for submission is March 31. If an application is submitted during a different time of the year, the company will be considered for certification at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting.
